Jaiquan Laurencin
CLASSES TAUGHT: Hip Hop and contemporary. 2nd year at Ballet Conservatory
Jaiquan Laurencin is a Connecticut native who started dancing in breakdancing/hip hop. After graduating high school he started seriously training under Jolet Creary (Rennie Harris Puremovement) in jazz, hip hop and modern, and dancing in her company, EQuilibrium Dance Theatre, for 3 years. Through EQuilibrium, he had the opportunity to travel all over Connecticut assisting in workshops, teaching and performing through hip hop dance as well as performing in an Indie film in New York City. He found his love for teaching and choreographing by setting pieces on the company for two years. In 2012, he moved to Texas where he found more opportunities in dance. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in dance and secondary teaching certification from Texas Woman's University training in ballet and modern dance. During his college years, he traveled and performed at many dance festivals, trained at intensives on scholarship and was awarded the Undergrad Excellence in Performance his first year at TWU. Exploring the different avenues of dance, Jaiquan received an opportunity to work for Joffrey Ballet School for two summers as an Arts Administration Intern while training at different studios in New York City. Currently he is a second year company member for Pedestrian Dance Movement under the artistic direction of Liz Terry. He also teaches, choreographs and performs around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in many different styles. He is assistant director for Ballet Conservatory's Intensity Dance and is also a member of Dark Circles.
On his career path, he hopes to inspire the youth to crave more from themselves in dance and life. Giving them the knowledge that wasn't acquired by him until he was older. Mr. Laurencin feels that dance is about more than moving your body, but about the connection between mind and body. Once that connection is found, it makes for a stronger and smarter dancer.
